Today, Adam Neal joins Wendy to talk about body image issues that face men in the LGBTQ community. Together, they talk about practicing mindfulness in our bodies, tools for embodiment, using sex as a step towards healing, and how mainstream diet culture shapes self-perception. Adam Neal is a psychotherapist who focuses on topics like depression and anxiety to sexual challenges, and spiritual crises. Neal is the author of Bods Among Men.

Adam A. Neal, M.A., AMFT/APCC (Registered Associate Marriage & Family Therapist #108784; Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor #5482) has worked in the community agency setting, educational setting, and private practice setting, providing psychotherapy to adolescents and adults managing issues ranging from depression and anxiety to sexual challenges and spiritual crises. Most recently, he served California Lutheran University's Community Counseling Services as a full-time clinician, educational presenter, and outreach coordinator through a grant from the American Red Cross to support wildfire relief efforts. As an educational presenter, he had the honor to present on mental health topics such as mindfulness, mental health first aid, trauma, and secondary trauma to such organizations as 2-1-1, Interface Children & Family Services, Jewish Family Services, and the LA and Ventura County Long-term Recovery Groups. Adam completed his master of arts in Counseling Psychology at Sofia University in Palo Alto, CA, with an additional certificate in Creative Expression, and he is currently pursuing a PhD in Transpersonal Psychology. He has contributed writing to The Therapist (July/August 2019), Connections (San Fernando Valley CAMFT newsletter), the AAMFT-CA newsletter, Psychology Tomorrow Magazine, TravelLady.com, and American Greetings, and has written for statewide standardized tests through Inksplash, an educational publishing company based in New York City. Adam served as the associate editor of Psychology Tomorrow Magazine and managing director of the Alternative Therapists Directory (now the Wellness Providers Network), both founded by psychotherapist, author, and educator Stanley Siegel. Adam has served Sofia University as adjunct faculty, teaching courses such as Human Sexuality, Systems Theory and Application, Transpersonal Theory & Literature, and Critical Thinking & Scholarly Writing. Adam grew up in Rockland County, NY, about 25 miles from Manhattan, and relocated to Los Angeles in 2016. He is an avid writer and loves singing, meditating, and practicing mindfulness in its infinite forms. In 2020, he published his first book, Bods Among Men.
